Hospitalization

When your pet comes down with an illness, he or she may need to stay in the hospital for diagnostic testing and treatments. If this becomes the situation, we have a space in our main treatment room for observation of critical cases. Off to the side of our main room there is a quiet room made for our felines with a large window for observation. This helps reduce stress by keeping them away from all of the noises and other pets.

Isolation and Hospitalization of cats and dogs

If a patient has a contagious disease, there is an Isolation Ward to keep the rest of the hospital free from contamination. Precautions are taken by the entire staff to prevent the spread of diseases. Also, the isolation ward has a large window for observation with out contamination.

When in the hospital your pet will most likely be receiving IV fluids. Fluids are important to keep your pet hydrated and electrolytes balanced. These are put on an infusion pump to make sure that your pet is receiving the proper amount of fluids in the proper timeframe. A catheter is placed in a leg and wrapped in a soft bandage for comfort and protection. Some times we made need to use an Elizabethan Collar or a bad tasting spray to prevent you pet from chewing on the line. Most pets handle this well.

During the weekend we will come in at least twice a day to clean up, treat medically, offer food and water, and take them out for a walk. The doctor comes to the hospital in the mornings to give your pet a brief exam and will call you to let you know how your pet is doing.

Our Erlanger office is equipped to handle your exotics if they should need hospitalization. They have the proper cages, heating units, and lamps to keep you pet healthy.
